ADVERBS

A common suffix for adverbs is -ly, but some adverbs are less easy to recognise.

Adverbs modify not just verbs, but also adjectives and other adverbs.  They often describe place, time, manner or degree.

Modifying a verb
She spoke quickly.                       
The cat purred
 contentedly.

Modifying an adjective
You are really clever.
They seem 
very happy.

Modifying an adverb
They ran rather slowly.
She paints 
very well.
